About Counseling Services:

You may be wondering how counseling works at school. I help kids who need support socially and/or emotionally when they're being impacted at school. Students are seen individually or in groups depending on their need. Services are provided up to about 10 weeks. Counseling at school is not considered therapy which is why it is short term.

Here are some skills we focus on in counseling:

  • Making and keeping friends
  • Recognizing and naming emotions
  • Regulating emotions
  • Solving problems
  • Dealing with sadness
  • Coping with family changes
  • Study Skills

This list is not exhaustive. I want to give you some ideas of how I can support your child. If you have any questions about counseling, please feel free to email me!

About Me:

Hello!

My name is Andrea Hendrickson. I am the school counselor at Highlands Elementary and Valhalla Elementary. This is my 2nd year with MDUSD and my 6th year as a school counselor.

I graduated in 2009 from Washington State University with my Bachelors Degree in Human Development and Psychology. I then attended the Lewis & Clark Graduate School of Education in Portland, OR. I graduated with my Masters of Education in School Counseling from there in 2011. I am passionate about education and mental health. I see school counseling as my calling.

I moved to California from Washington state a year ago. My husband and I have been enjoying exploring California and visiting the PNW to see our families.

I hope your 2018-2019 school year is wonderful!
