Welcome to Highlands it is going to be a great year!

This is my 28th year in public education and my 26th at Highlands. I did my undergraduate studies and secondary credential at Chico State, my elementary and special education credential at Hayward State.

At home I love gardening and cooking!

Language Arts

Reading-The Class is working on reading expository text. To help your child out you can read short appropriate newspaper articles and discuss.

Writing- Narrative Writing



Multiplication- Memorize math facts. Identify arrays and decompose problems

Addition and Subtraction of 4-digit numbers with regrouping- The students are working on

The class is continuing to work on two step word problems using addition, subtraction and multiplication. The class is still working on four digit addition and subtraction with regrouping. You can help your child out by studying basic facts with them.

Students are exploring Google slides, Drive and Classroom.


Home Work

Home work will be assigned nightly. An assignment sheet outlining the weeks activities will come home on Mondays. It needs to be signed and returned on Tuesday for credit. It is an expectation that students will read 20 min. nightly, record min. on the reading login and practice math facts (addition, subtraction, multiplication and division).

In addition, there will be a monthly book report to be completed at home (see link for book reports). It is also an expectation that each student complete 45 min. of i-Ready reading and math at home (weekly).

Accelerated Reader

It is an expectation for students to read nightly and take AR tests on the books they read. Point goals:

1st timester 15 points

2nd trimester 20 points

3rd trimester 15 points (shorter time period)

Students can only take AR tests at school. Parents may view student progress and can link your e-mail up for notifications. I sent each parent a user name and password home at the beginning of the year.
