About Highlands

Highlands Elementary School is part of the Mt Diablo Unified School District, located in Concord, California and serves approximately 600 students in grades K-5.

Our staff works collaboratively toward student success and must be commended for their 2009-10 STAR performance results. Both school-wide API (Academic Performance Index) and AYP (Adequate Yearly Performance) were met. School-wide API is estimated to be above 850! While this is amazing news and reason for celebration, we must also be cognizant that not all student and grade level subgroups met required API and AYP growth targets. Our challenge for the 2010-11 school year is to ensure that all growth targets are met.

In 2005-2006 Highlands received an Honorable Mention for the California's Distinguished School Award. Since only five percent of schools receive the "Distinguished School Award" each year, this is an impressive accomplishment.

Past successes and current API achievement demonstrate both the high degree of knowledge and dedication of our staff. We remain committed to providing a quality education for all students. Assessment results will be used to help understand and address individual learning needs as well as to look at school-wide and grade level patterns. Through the utilization of effective and proven instructional practices we will advance student learning.

Please contact the office if you have any questions.

School Vision

Highland 's Vision Statement was written collaboratively with parents, staff, students and the community four years ago and we are in the process of redefining our vision   Highland 's Vision Statement was written collaboratively with parents, staff, students and the community four years ago and we are in the process of redefining our vision and mission. We revisit this statement every year and it expresses the core values of our school community. “The culture of Highlands embraces a spirit of hope and the understanding that all students can reach their highest potential. It is a school where staff, families, and community members work together to support student learning. Parents are valued and active participants in their children's education. Communication flows freely within the school community." Highlands is a school that nurtures the whole child by seeking to provide abundant academic resources and enrichment opportunities. All children's needs are addressed on an individual basis. Students are excited about learning and are challenged with high expectations. Students leave Highlands with a thirst for knowledge and the foundation to become lifelong learners.
